Winner:- Irish Times/ESB Irish Theatre Award for Best Production (1999) How do Jake and Charlie bring an end to this invasion and solve the culture clash? To Jake they are hypocrites who treated his cousin “like he was a piece of muck on their boots” Neither is the reality of Hollywood super stars anything like the Irish extras expected – there is nothing gracious or superstar about them. This reality is nothing like what the Americans expected – green, sweet and friendly. Through the eyes of two of these extras (Jake Quinn and Charlie Conlon) who play all 15 characters between them, we see the reality of Ireland in the late nineties. It turns out to be more than just an hilarious clash of cultures when, in 1996, American filmmakers invade County Kerry, Ireland, looking not only for the perfect location, but also for “extras” for their Hollywood movie, “The Quiet Valley”.
